Hawaii Wedding Planner Rebrand: Tropical Moon Events

branding

filed in:

Tropical Moon Events had years of professional service behind it, a stellar process, and a growing list of services for their clients. BUT…..the branding hadn’t caught up. As the business grew, it needed a look that could carry more weight without losing the personal touch that sits at the heart of TME.

Plot twist!!!! The business was also growing offshoots that needed identities of their own. Star Bar Hawaii handles the event bar side. Hoku Events + Hospitality plans corporate events. One wedding brand had to become a family of three. Each strong enough to stand alone but the connection to one another needed to remain in place.

The challenge:

  • elevate Tropical Moon Events branding to reflect the years of professional service, stellar process and offerings without losing the personal touch or ‘boho’ soul;
  • develop branding for Hoku Hospitality + Events AND Star Bar Hawaii which may serve separate demographics while retaining cohesiveness;
  • maintain the spirit of the island while projecting a completely unique + professional visual presence.

The mood:

Tropical Moon Events mood board with terracotta, teal, navy and blush tones, velvet seating, ocean aerial and art deco branding

mood board translation:

This board says warm, but not sweet. Everything is sun-baked and a little moody, closer to golden hour than noon. The textures (velvet, rattan, copper, stone, aged wood) tell you this is luxury that’s been lived in, not luxury behind a rope. The dancing couple says events are things that happen, not things you look at. The man in the gilded chair is the quiet permission slip that this world isn’t only for brides. The thin lettering on those logo tiles points to the type direction: tall, fine and confident.

The brands:

brand foundation:

Tropical Moon Events and Hoku Events + Hopitality share two primary personality traits: sincerity (honest, down-to-earth, positive) and competence (reliable, hard-working, intelligent). Their shared archetype is the creator, the brand that gives structure to people driven by creativity and self-expression.

The emotional goals differ slightly. For Tropical Moon, they’re adventure, beauty, collaboration, commitment and connection. For Hoku, it’s sophistication with genuine friendliness.

Sincerity plus competence is a strong pairing for anyone in events, because you’re trusting someone with a day you can’t redo. It’s also the combination that lets a bar business and a corporate planner sit under a wedding planner’s name without it feeling strange.

the feedback:

“Working with Kirstie at Bonhomie Design has been an absolute dream! She guided us through a full dual rebrand for both Tropical Moon Events and Hoku Events & Hospitality, and the transformation has been nothing short of magical.

Kirstie has such a gift for truly seeing a brand’s heart and bringing it to life through thoughtful design. She took the time to understand our vision and values, and translated them into two distinct yet beautifully connected brands that feel authentic to who we are.

On top of that, she created a stunning website for Hoku Events & Hospitality that perfectly captures our personality and professionalism—it shines with the exact energy we wanted to share with our clients.

Her creativity, attention to detail, and genuine passion for her craft made the entire process exciting, inspiring, and seamless. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome and highly recommend Bonhomie Design to anyone looking to elevate their brand and web presence!”

What other wedding pros can take from this

If your business is growing a second act, whether that’s a bar, a corporate arm, a design studio or something you haven’t named yet, a few things carry over:

  • Fix the parent brand first. The offshoots inherit whatever the parent can’t do.
  • Build a system, not three logos. Decide what’s shared and what’s free to change before any designing begins.
  • Design for the client in the room, not the one you’re used to. Your audiences may not overlap, and your brand shouldn’t pretend they do.
  • Keep the soul. Tropical Moon Events got more polished and kept every bit of its boho. That’s the job.

Design should reveal who you are, not cover it up.

This rebrand didn’t sand down the personality of Tropical Moon Events. It gave that personality a structure sturdy enough to hold two more businesses.
